Calculation method
Every source rate is first expressed in bits per second. One byte is eight bits; decimal kilo and mega use powers of 1,000, while kibi and mebi use powers of 1,024 bytes. The destination factor is then applied without estimating overhead.

A byte contains eight bits, so 100 Mbit/s equals 12.5 MB/s before any overhead. Symbol case matters: lowercase b denotes bit and uppercase B denotes byte. Real delivered file speed may be lower because framing, protocol headers, retransmissions, congestion, storage performance, and measurement windows are outside this conversion.
MB/s uses the decimal megabyte, or 1,000,000 bytes per second. MiB/s uses the binary mebibyte, or 1,048,576 bytes per second. They are not interchangeable labels. Match the convention reported by the device or software and always retain the exact symbol when communicating the converted result.
No. A transfer-time estimate also needs payload size and a defensible sustained payload rate. Advertised link speed may include protocol overhead and may vary over time. Convert the rate here, then use a separate transfer-time model that states whether size uses decimal or binary units and includes realistic efficiency assumptions.
