How numerator volume and denominator time combine

Each factor converts both parts of the compound unit to cubic metres per second. Litre, US-gallon, and cubic-foot volumes use labelled definitions, while minute and hour denominators contribute 60- and 3,600-second factors before destination conversion.

Is a US gallon per minute the same as an imperial gallon per minute?

No. This page labels and uses the US liquid gallon. An imperial gallon has a different volume, so substituting it would produce a material error. Confirm the meter, datasheet, and jurisdiction before conversion. If the source only says gpm without defining the gallon, resolve that ambiguity first.

Can I convert volumetric flow directly to mass flow?

Not from units alone. Mass flow equals volumetric flow multiplied by density, and density depends on the material and often temperature and pressure. For compressible gases, standard and actual volume-flow conventions also matter. Use a separate model with density measured or specified at conditions consistent with the source flow.

Does this result include pipe losses or pump performance?

No. It preserves one reported flow magnitude in another unit. Pressure loss, pump operating point, valve position, pipe roughness, fittings, elevation, viscosity, Reynolds number, and transient behavior require a hydraulic model and system data. Treat this conversion as an input normalization step, not an equipment-selection result.
