STEP 02 / CONFIGURE

Create the opening password

Enter the same 6-128 character password twice. Nirmion clears both fields immediately after a successful download.

Use a unique passphrase that you can transfer separately and store safely.
Repeat the password exactly to prevent accidental lockout.
Temporary by designPasswords are sent only with this local request, never logged by the route, and cleared from the page after success.

PRODUCT SPECIFICATION

Understand Add Password to PDF before you process a file.

Opening-password encryption controls access when a PDF is sent through channels where file-level protection is appropriate.

01

Accepted input

One currently unlocked PDF up to 10 MB and 500 pages, plus matching 6-128 character password entries.

02

What you receive

One encrypted PDF ending in _nirmion_tools_protected.pdf that prompts for the chosen password.

03

Important boundary

Nirmion cannot recover a forgotten password. Encryption also does not replace secure transfer, access management, or backups.

THREE-STEP WORKFLOW

From source PDF to checked result.

The source must be readable before a new opening password can be applied.

1. Upload and validate

Choose an unlocked PDF. Use Unlock PDF first only when you know the current password and have permission.

2. Set the operation

Use a long unique passphrase, confirm it exactly, and arrange a separate secure way to share it.

3. Download and review

Open the downloaded copy with the new password before deleting, moving, or sharing the source.

KNOW BEFORE YOU USE IT

There is no password recovery.

If the new password is lost, this tool cannot restore access to the encrypted copy. Test the file, keep an authorized backup, and never place the password in the same message as the document.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Details that affect the result.

Which encryption is used?

The API uses pypdf AES-256-R5 encryption for the generated copy.

Does Nirmion save my password?

The PDF route does not create job history or log password values, and the Angular form clears them after success.

Can I protect an already encrypted PDF?

Not directly. Provide a readable unlocked source before setting a new password.

FREE ONLINE PDF TOOL

Add an AES opening password to a PDF online.

Nirmion Add Password to PDF validates matching password entries and returns an AES-256-R5 encrypted copy while leaving the uploaded source unchanged.

Password fields reset after automatic download, processing creates no server-side job history, and the result filename clearly identifies the Nirmion protected copy.
