The input is multiplied by its amperes-per-unit factor and divided by the destination factor. Milli, micro, nano, and kilo retain their decimal SI meanings throughout the equation and export.

Is an ampere the same as an ampere-hour?

No. An ampere measures electric current, while an ampere-hour measures electric charge accumulated over time. This current converter intentionally excludes ampere-hours. Use the Electric Charge Converter for charge units, and include an explicit time profile when estimating charge from a current that changes during operation.

Can I convert an AC RMS value to peak current?

Not with a unit conversion alone. RMS, peak, peak-to-peak, and average values describe different properties of a waveform. Their relationship depends on waveform shape and distortion. This page preserves the supplied magnitude and only changes ampere prefixes, so keep the source measurement convention attached to the result.

Does the result tell me which wire or fuse to use?

No. Conductor and protective-device selection depends on installation method, insulation, ambient temperature, bundling, duty cycle, fault conditions, voltage, terminal ratings, jurisdiction, and applicable code.
