STEM REASONING AND EVIDENCE WORKBENCH

Polarity Evidence Concept Diagnostic

Sum supplied bond-dipole vector components by species and audit molecular-polarity claims from the resultant.

Runs in this browser tabEditable downloadUp to 500 structured rows and 30,000 characters per field. Use anonymous or fictional labels.

Learning inputs

Build the polarity evidence concept diagnostic

Enter an anonymous diagnostic label, a shared dipole unit, and a positive near-zero resultant tolerance. Add species | bond or component label | signed x component | signed y component | yes or no molecular-polar claim rows. Repeat the same claim for every row grouped under one species.

Generation uses only the information entered in this tab. It does not fetch sources or make student decisions.

Transparent method

How the polarity evidence concept diagnostic works

For each species, add all signed x components and all signed y components. Resultant magnitude equals the square root of total x squared plus total y squared. A resultant above the declared near-zero tolerance is classified polar in this model; a resultant at or below it is classified nonpolar by cancellation. A supported claim agrees with the entered vector and tolerance evidence. The result remains conditional on correct geometry, equivalent bond directions, and component values. A nonzero resultant indicates charge-separation direction in the model but does not provide a measured molecular dipole or determine bulk behavior by itself.

  1. 01
    Before generation

Confirm the question, approved source, units, notation, signs, response coding, model assumptions, and review threshold. Keep an unchanged copy of measurements or learner evidence.

  2. 02
    During review

Run the worked example, inspect every intermediate row, and compare the result with a hand calculation, diagram, representation, periodic table, or approved laboratory method.

  3. 03
    Before use

Record the method, assumptions, uncertainty, units, classifications, and flagged rows. Verify the editable report independently before instruction, assessment, or laboratory use.

How to interpret the result

Polarity Evidence Concept Diagnostic

Before generation

Use after bond polarity and molecular geometry have already been established and learners need to test vector cancellation. It does not infer bonds, electronegativity, VSEPR shape, three-dimensional components, resonance, conformation, experimental dipole moment, solubility, or intermolecular-force strength.

Worked example

Two opposite carbon dioxide components cancel, two water components retain a vertical resultant, and three ideal trigonal-planar boron trifluoride components cancel within tolerance. A supplied ammonia resultant points upward, so the entered nonpolar claim conflicts with the nonzero vector evidence.

Formula or methodology

For each species, add all signed x components and all signed y components. Resultant magnitude equals the square root of total x squared plus total y squared. A resultant above the declared near-zero tolerance is classified polar in this model; a resultant at or below it is classified nonpolar by cancellation.

How to interpret the result

A supported claim agrees with the entered vector and tolerance evidence. The result remains conditional on correct geometry, equivalent bond directions, and component values. A nonzero resultant indicates charge-separation direction in the model but does not provide a measured molecular dipole or determine bulk behavior by itself.

Common mistakes

Do not label every molecule with polar bonds as polar, add magnitudes without directions, draw a flat shape when geometry is three-dimensional, ignore lone-pair effects, or infer solubility from one label. Verify the Lewis structure and geometry, choose axes, resolve every bond vector, and inspect symmetry before summing.

Learning boundary

A calculated signal still requires subject review

This browser-local workbench applies only the disclosed rules. It cannot diagnose a learner, certify an experiment, establish a chemical structure, or replace teacher, laboratory, and safety judgment.

Review checklist

Human review before educational use

  • Every value, symbol, unit, classification, date, and response matches the source evidence.
  • The disclosed model matches the course method and intended question.
  • Intermediate rows and conflicts have been inspected rather than using only the headline.
  • A teacher or learner verifies the report independently and records corrections.

Practical questions

Polarity Evidence Concept Diagnostic questions

Does Nirmion upload these inputs?

No. Processing occurs in the current browser tab. Avoid personal information and retain authoritative records only in the school-approved system.

Can this result prove understanding or a scientific law?

No. It describes entered evidence under one disclosed rule. Compare several evidence sources and ask for reasoning before drawing a conclusion.

Can I submit the downloaded report as finished work?

Treat it as an editable calculation aid. Show your own reasoning, cite required sources, and follow the course method and academic-integrity rules.
