BUILT AROUND THE TASK

Prepare a software release

Organize the evidence needed for a release decision. Review risk, plan regression checks, record defects, and prepare sign-off and release notes for the intended audience.

USE WITH CONTEXT

Before you use these tools

A completed checklist does not prove the software works. Use actual execution results and do not mark untested behavior as passed.

A PRACTICAL ROUTE THROUGH THE SHELF

From raw input to reviewed output

  1. 1

    Identify the release risk

List changed behavior, affected users, dependencies, and rollback constraints. Choose tests based on those risks.

  2. 2

    Gather test evidence

Run checks in the appropriate environment and record reproducible defects. Link results to the version being evaluated.

  3. 3

    Make the release decision

Review unresolved issues with the accountable owner. Prepare clear release notes and confirm monitoring and rollback arrangements.

Questions before you start

Can release notes replace a release checklist?

No. Release notes explain changes to an audience, while the checklist organizes readiness evidence and decisions. Both should refer to the same version, but they serve different purposes.
