Temporary server workspace

Plain-language method

How speed changes affect time and sound

Retiming changes motion cadence and audio character. The tempo filter preserves pitch better than simple resampling, but extreme changes can still sound processed.

Container and codec

Understand the output format

Output is H.264 MP4 with AAC audio when present. Frame timing and audio tempo are rewritten; source chapters and subtitle timings are not retained.

The tool does not create speed ramps, freeze frames, or different rates for separate sections. Use a timeline editor for variable speed effects.

Yes. Available audio receives a matching tempo adjustment.

Does changing speed alter duration?

Yes. For example, 2x is about half the source duration and 0.5x is about twice as long.

Can I use different speeds in one video?

No. This tool applies one multiplier to the entire timeline.
