STEM REASONING AND EVIDENCE WORKBENCH

Cognitive Demand Balance Planning Workbench

Allocate an exact assessment point total across demand bands with largest-remainder rounding and visible task minimums.

Runs in this browser tabEditable downloadUp to 500 structured rows and 30,000 characters per field. Use anonymous or fictional labels.

Learning inputs

Build the cognitive demand balance planning workbench

Enter a fictional plan label and positive whole-number point total. Add unique demand band | target percentage | positive minimum task count rows. Percentages must total exactly 100 within a tiny numerical tolerance. Classify demand by the thinking the actual task requires under your approved framework, and keep standards alignment, accessibility, time, and scoring evidence outside the numeric allocation.

Generation uses only the information entered in this tab. It does not fetch sources or make student decisions.

Transparent method

How the cognitive demand balance planning workbench works

Raw band points equal total points times target percentage divided by 100. Take the floor of each raw value, then subtract their sum from the exact total. Sort fractional remainders from largest to smallest, preserving input order for ties, and add one point to that many bands. The resulting integer allocations sum exactly to the declared total. The report is an arithmetic blueprint, not evidence that task demand has been classified well. A one-point rounding adjustment is visible and reproducible. Review the actual reasoning path, scaffolds, response mode, prerequisite load, point weight, task count, estimated time, standard coverage, scoring criteria, choice, and accessibility before approving the assessment plan.

Confirm the question, approved source, units, notation, signs, response coding, model assumptions, and review threshold. Keep an unchanged copy of measurements or learner evidence.

  2. 02
    During review

Run the worked example, inspect every intermediate row, and compare the result with a hand calculation, diagram, representation, periodic table, or approved laboratory method.

Record the method, assumptions, uncertainty, units, classifications, and flagged rows. Verify the editable report independently before instruction, assessment, or laboratory use.

How to interpret the result

Cognitive Demand Balance Planning Workbench

Before generation

Use after a team has chosen defensible cognitive-demand categories and target shares for a quiz, assessment, or task set. The workbench converts percentages into exact whole points without losing the total. It does not classify questions from verbs, write items, validate a framework, measure difficulty, predict reliability, guarantee curriculum coverage, set grades, or determine whether a plan is fair.

Worked example

A 100-point plan with shares 20, 35, 30, and 15 allocates exactly those point totals across four demand bands. Minimum task counts three, four, three, and one expose average points per minimum task. With a total that creates fractions, whole points are floored and remaining points go to the largest decimal remainders in stable entered order.

Formula or methodology

Raw band points equal total points times target percentage divided by 100. Take the floor of each raw value, then subtract their sum from the exact total. Sort fractional remainders from largest to smallest, preserving input order for ties, and add one point to that many bands. The resulting integer allocations sum exactly to the declared total.

How to interpret the result

The report is an arithmetic blueprint, not evidence that task demand has been classified well. A one-point rounding adjustment is visible and reproducible. Review the actual reasoning path, scaffolds, response mode, prerequisite load, point weight, task count, estimated time, standard coverage, scoring criteria, choice, and accessibility before approving the assessment plan.

Common mistakes

Do not classify demand from a verb alone, equate more points with deeper thinking, force rounded bands to total 99 or 101, hide the tie rule, use percentages that do not total 100, let one large item dominate a band unintentionally, or ignore accessible pathways. Review every task, document borderline classifications, and recalculate after content changes.

Learning boundary

A calculated signal still requires subject review

This browser-local workbench applies only the disclosed rules. It cannot diagnose a learner, certify an experiment, establish a chemical structure, or replace teacher, laboratory, and safety judgment.

Review checklist

Human review before educational use

  • Every value, symbol, unit, classification, date, and response matches the source evidence.
  • The disclosed model matches the course method and intended question.
  • Intermediate rows and conflicts have been inspected rather than using only the headline.
  • A teacher or learner verifies the report independently and records corrections.

Practical questions

Cognitive Demand Balance Planning Workbench questions

Does Nirmion upload these inputs?

No. Processing occurs in the current browser tab. Avoid personal information and retain authoritative records only in the school-approved system.

Can this result prove understanding or a scientific law?

No. It describes entered evidence under one disclosed rule. Compare several evidence sources and ask for reasoning before drawing a conclusion.

Can I submit the downloaded report as finished work?

Treat it as an editable calculation aid. Show your own reasoning, cite required sources, and follow the course method and academic-integrity rules.
