Calculation method

How scale multipliers and offsets work

The source multiplier and offset first produce kelvin. The destination offset is removed and the result is divided by its multiplier. This is why a temperature scale cannot be converted with one ratio alone.

Why can Celsius and Fahrenheit be negative?

Their zero points are offsets from absolute zero, so valid values can be negative on those scales.

Why is a value below absolute zero blocked?

It would represent less than zero kelvin and is outside the physical scale represented by this converter.

Does conversion add measurement accuracy?
