STEM PRACTICE AND EVIDENCE WORKBENCH

Percent Yield Investigation Concept Diagnostic

Calculate actual-to-theoretical yield and audit both learner percentages and above-theoretical classifications.

Runs in this browser tabEditable downloadUp to 500 structured rows and 30,000 characters per field. Use anonymous or fictional labels.

Learning inputs

Build the percent yield investigation concept diagnostic

Enter a fictional diagnostic label, common yield unit, percentage tolerance, and trial | nonnegative actual isolated yield | positive theoretical yield | learner percent | at_or_below_theoretical or above_theoretical rows. Verify that both yields refer to the same product, chemical form, reaction extent, and measurement basis.

Generation uses only the information entered in this tab. It does not fetch sources or make student decisions.

Transparent method

How the percent yield investigation concept diagnostic works

Percent yield equals actual yield divided by theoretical yield times one hundred. At or below theoretical corresponds to a result no greater than 100 percent; above theoretical is a review flag. Numerical percentage and classification must both match within tolerance for the learner claim to be supported. Supported means the learner used the correct ratio and classified the result consistently. A value above 100 percent can reveal incomplete drying, contamination, wrong product form, incorrect theoretical yield, calibration error, or unit mismatch. A value below 100 percent can reflect transfers, side reactions, equilibrium, decomposition, solubility, or incomplete reaction.

    Before generation

Confirm the question, source, units, notation, response coding, model assumptions, and review threshold. Keep an unchanged copy of the original evidence.

  2. 02
    During review

Run the worked example, inspect every intermediate row, and compare it with a hand calculation, diagram, representation, or approved subject method.

  3. 03
    Before use

Record the method, assumptions, units, classifications, and flagged rows. Verify the editable report independently before educational or laboratory use.

How to interpret the result

Percent Yield Investigation Concept Diagnostic

Before generation

Use after theoretical yield has been calculated from a balanced reaction and limiting reagent. The diagnostic exposes ratio direction and flags recorded values above the theoretical quantity. It does not balance equations, identify the limiting reagent, correct purity, dry a product, model equilibrium, estimate uncertainty, or decide why material was lost or gained.

Worked example

Actual eight from theoretical ten gives 80 percent, and 4.5 from six gives 75 percent. A recorded 10.5 from theoretical ten gives 105 percent and is correctly classified above theoretical. The final row has actual six from theoretical eight, so 75 percent is expected; its inverted 133.333 percent and above claim are flagged.

Formula or methodology

Percent yield equals actual yield divided by theoretical yield times one hundred. At or below theoretical corresponds to a result no greater than 100 percent; above theoretical is a review flag. Numerical percentage and classification must both match within tolerance for the learner claim to be supported.

How to interpret the result

Supported means the learner used the correct ratio and classified the result consistently. A value above 100 percent can reveal incomplete drying, contamination, wrong product form, incorrect theoretical yield, calibration error, or unit mismatch. A value below 100 percent can reflect transfers, side reactions, equilibrium, decomposition, solubility, or incomplete reaction.

Common mistakes

Do not invert actual and theoretical yield, use reactant mass as product yield, calculate from an unbalanced equation, ignore limiting reagent or purity, mix hydrate and anhydrous forms, treat values over 100 as automatically fabricated, or round theoretical yield too early. Preserve the calculation trail and investigate apparatus and material evidence.

Learning boundary

A calculated signal still requires subject review

This browser-local workbench applies only the disclosed rules. It cannot diagnose a learner, certify an experiment, or replace teacher, laboratory, and safety judgment.

Review checklist

Human review before educational use

  • Every entered value, unit, label, and response matches the approved source evidence.
  • The disclosed model matches the intended curriculum question and evidence type.
  • Intermediate rows and conflicts have been inspected rather than using only the headline.
  • A teacher or learner verifies the report independently and records corrections.

Practical questions

Percent Yield Investigation Concept Diagnostic questions

Does Nirmion upload these inputs?

No. Processing occurs in the current browser tab. Avoid personal information and retain authoritative records only in the approved school system.

Can the result prove mastery or scientific validity?

No. It describes entered evidence under one disclosed rule. Review reasoning, uncertainty, access, and several evidence sources.

Can I submit the downloaded report as finished work?

Treat it as an editable calculation aid. Show your own reasoning, cite required sources, and follow course and academic-integrity rules.
