How torque units pass through newton metres

The converter multiplies the source torque by its newton-metre factor and divides by the destination factor. Force and perpendicular distance are already embodied in that factor; geometry is not recalculated.

Is one newton metre the same as one joule?

They share the same base dimensions, but they describe different physical quantities. Torque is a moment of force and retains rotational direction and lever-arm context; a joule measures energy or work. This converter therefore labels newton metres as torque and never offers joules as interchangeable destination units.

Why does the page use pound-force foot instead of foot-pound?

Pound-force foot makes the force-times-distance structure explicit and reduces confusion with foot-pound force used for energy. Source manuals may use several word orders or abbreviations, so verify the intended quantity in the governing document. The conversion factor applies only when the source value is genuinely torque.

Can this choose the correct wheel or fastener torque?

No. It can convert a torque specification that you already trust, but it cannot create one. Use the current manufacturer procedure for the exact component, fastener, thread state, lubrication, sequence, and tool method. Calibrated equipment and qualified review remain necessary where failure could cause harm.
