Image Metadata Remover

Re-encode a still image to remove EXIF and container metadata before sharing or publishing it.

Runs locallyNo image upload to Nirmion

Step 1 / Source

Choose one image

JPEG · PNG · WebP · 20 MB

Drop your image here

Or browse for a JPEG, PNG, or WebP image that you own or are authorised to edit.

One file · up to 20 MB · maximum 50 megapixels

Step 2 / Output

Create a clean copy

Re-encoding omits common EXIF fields such as camera details and embedded GPS metadata.

Pixel-only re-encodeThe filename uses _nirmion_tools_metadata_removed while the original file remains unchanged on your device.
Keep this page open until the download begins.
01No server upload

The selected image is decoded and re-encoded inside this browser tab.

02Working copy released

After download, the preview URL, decoded bitmap, canvas, and selected source reference are cleared.

03Your download remains

Nirmion cannot remove the finished file from your device or browser download history.

Workflow guide

A cleaner image before sharing

Reduce accidental metadata disclosure without sending the source image to a remote service.
A

What you need

Use one still supported image. Keep the original separately if its camera, copyright, colour-profile, or location metadata matters.

B

Social-ready choices

Social platforms may alter images again after upload. This tool only controls the copy created before you share it.

C

What you receive

A re-encoded image downloads with common metadata omitted, then the page clears its source reference and preview.

Decision guide

Remove common metadata without overstating privacy

Camera files can contain location, device, capture, orientation, profile, and authorship fields. Canvas re-encoding omits common container metadata because only decoded pixels are drawn into the new file.

This is not a forensic erasure guarantee. Information visibly printed in pixels, hidden through steganography, stored in cloud history, or retained by your original file is not removed by creating this copy.

Where a clean copy helps

  1. Prepare a personal photograph before sharing it publicly.
  2. Remove camera and location fields from a copy sent to a client or marketplace.
  3. Create a web-ready derivative while preserving the archival original separately.

Good to know

Important image boundaries

Why might a PNG not become smaller?
PNG is lossless and browsers do not expose a quality control for it. Choose WebP or JPEG when reducing file size matters more than exact lossless pixels.
Are animated images supported?
No. The workspace accepts still JPEG, PNG, and WebP files. Re-encoding an animated source would otherwise keep only one frame.
What does clearing the file mean?
Because processing is local, there is no Nirmion server copy to delete. The tab releases its working references after success; your downloaded output remains on your device.
