How density units use kilograms per cubic metre

The source density is multiplied by its kilogram-per-cubic-metre factor and divided by the destination factor. Both the mass and volume components are included in each reviewed compound-unit factor.

Is density the same as specific gravity?

No. Density has units of mass per volume. Specific gravity is a dimensionless ratio comparing a substance with a stated reference density, commonly water for liquids. Converting density units does not calculate specific gravity unless the correct reference value and its temperature or other conditions are supplied separately.

Why should temperature and pressure stay with the result?

Density can change when a material expands, contracts, compresses, changes composition, or changes phase. The converter changes only units and assumes the supplied density already applies at the intended conditions. For gases and precision liquid work, verify temperature, pressure, concentration, and the authoritative property source before use.

Which gallon is used for pounds per gallon?

The available unit is explicitly pounds per US gallon. An Imperial gallon has a different volume and would produce a different density value. Do not use the US-gallon result for an unlabeled or Imperial source; first confirm the volume convention from the specification, instrument, supplier, or governing standard.
