Use boundary

Calculation path

The launch velocity is resolved into horizontal and vertical components. A quadratic vertical-position equation gives the positive impact time, which sets range; the zero-vertical-velocity point gives maximum height.

Calculation path

Resolve initial speed into horizontal and vertical components, solve height = 0 for flight time, then range = horizontal speed x time.

What you provide

What you provide

  • Initial speed and angle measured from the horizontal
  • Launch height relative to impact level
  • A positive constant gravitational acceleration

What you receive

What you receive

  • Ideal horizontal range and flight time
  • Maximum height above the impact level
  • Initial horizontal and vertical velocity components

Use boundary

Choose the maximum decimal places shown. This does not increase source accuracy.

The result excludes drag, wind, lift, spin, Earth curvature, changing gravity, and non-level impact geometry. It is an educational mechanics model, not a safety trajectory.

Use consistent units and preserve more precision than the displayed result when carrying an answer into another calculation.
