Update your Aadhaar address through the official UIDAI route

This guide covers an address change on an existing Aadhaar record. UIDAI's online services and Aadhaar App can change address, but other demographic and biometric changes may require a different process or an in-person visit. Use only UIDAI's official myAadhaar or Aadhaar App links and check the current accepted-document list and screen instructions before submitting. Address update requests are verified and are not guaranteed to be accepted. Do not enter Aadhaar numbers, OTPs, document images or biometrics into Nirmion tools or share them in chat.

MISSION Help an Aadhaar holder choose an eligible UIDAI address-update route, submit current proof or use the Head of Family process, save the request reference, and track the decision safely.

THE REAL-WORLD BIT

What happens outside this browser tab?

Decide whether you can use your own accepted proof of address or the Head of Family route; check UIDAI's latest instructions and document requirements; submit via the official UIDAI app/portal or visit an authorized center if online authentication is unavailable; carefully review the address and language preview, follow the fee shown by UIDAI, and save the acknowledgement/SRN; track the request and correct any rejection only through UIDAI's stated process.

YOUR CHECKLIST, WITH FEWER DRAMATIC SIGHES

One step at a time.

Follow the order below. If a step names a Nirmion tool, its link is right there with it.

  1. 01

Confirm the change you need and choose an official route

Use this process only to change the address on your existing Aadhaar. Start from uidai.gov.in and open its current Address Update service; UIDAI currently describes address updates through its official Aadhaar App and myAadhaar services. Check the service's latest eligibility and authentication prompts, since app and portal flows can change. If you cannot authenticate online with the registered mobile or the service says your case needs in-person handling, find an authorized Aadhaar Seva Kendra or enrolment/update centre through UIDAI. Do not use a sponsored search result, agent link, or a third party that asks you to disclose an OTP.

  2. 02

Choose acceptable address evidence before entering the request

For an update using your own document, open UIDAI's current List of Acceptable Documents from the official site or app and confirm that the document qualifies as Proof of Address for your case. Check that it is valid, readable, contains the applicant's name and the address you intend to enter, and includes every page UIDAI asks for. If you do not have a qualifying proof in your own name, check whether you meet UIDAI's Head of Family route: the relationship and consent requirements apply, and the family member must approve the request in their own official service. Do not assume an old list, another person's document, or a document category not accepted for PoA will work.

  3. 03

Prepare the address exactly as the evidence supports

Type the address from the selected proof without inventing or omitting components that determine delivery or identity. Follow UIDAI's current fields and upload rules. If the service asks for English and displays a regional-language rendering, inspect both previews and correct transliteration before signing or submitting. For the Head of Family option, use the relationship and family-member information requested by UIDAI and tell the HoF to watch for the approval request. If the details cannot be entered accurately or your document is unclear, stop and resolve that issue first rather than submitting a guess; mismatched addresses and unreadable files can lead to rejection.

  4. 04

Submit in UIDAI's app or portal and retain the acknowledgement

Open the service by navigating from UIDAI's official site to the Aadhaar App or myAadhaar portal. Authenticate only in that official flow, complete any required face or OTP check, attach only the requested proof, review the full address preview, and pay the amount displayed by UIDAI before final submission. For an HoF request, confirm that the family member receives and approves it as required. Download the acknowledgement or invoice and securely keep the Service Request Number (SRN) and submission confirmation. If the online service is unavailable or you lack the required authentication, use UIDAI's centre locator and submit with the operator; keep the acknowledgement/Enrolment ID issued at the centre.

  5. 05

Track the request and respond to a rejection safely

Use UIDAI's Check Aadhaar Update Status service and the SRN on your acknowledgement; do not post the number publicly. An SRN confirms submission, not approval. If the request is rejected, read the reason in the official status/service channel and compare the submitted address with the accepted proof, applicant name, file clarity, and document category. Correct the identified issue and make a new request only where UIDAI's current instructions allow it; contact UIDAI through its published support or visit an authorized centre if the reason is unclear. Download or request the updated Aadhaar only after UIDAI marks the address change successful, and verify the result through UIDAI's own service.
