Set up one active FASTag for an Indian vehicle

For an individual vehicle owner in India. Issuer onboarding, supported payment options and current document requirements vary, so follow the selected issuer?s live instructions. IHMCL says only one FASTag may be active for one vehicle; this guide does not buy, activate or recharge a tag for you.

MISSION Obtain a FASTag from an authorized issuer for one India-registered vehicle, complete that issuer?s vehicle and account setup, affix the tag correctly, and confirm that the intended tag is active.

Check the vehicle?s FASTag status on the official NETC service

Check for existing tags, select a legitimate issuer, complete its current application and KYC steps, attach the RFID sticker to the windshield as directed, then confirm the tag linked to the registration number is active and funded.

YOUR CHECKLIST, WITH FEWER DRAMATIC SIGHES

One step at a time.

Follow the order below. If a step names a Nirmion tool, its link is right there with it.

  1. 01

Check whether the vehicle already has a FASTag

Use the NETC FASTag status link from IHMCL?s FAQ to check the vehicle registration number and see any linked tags. IHMCL says only one active FASTag is permitted for one vehicle; older tags linked to the same vehicle are deactivated when a newer one is issued. If you are replacing a tag, or the result shows an unfamiliar tag, contact the issuer shown in the official result and resolve ownership or closure before ordering another.

  2. 02

Choose an issuer and start on its official channel

Use IHMCL?s current FAQ or the official NETC issuer directory to reach a participating issuer?s own website, app or point-of-sale location. Confirm that the application is for the correct vehicle class and ask the issuer for its current price, deposit, first-recharge and refund terms; these vary by issuer and vehicle class. Avoid purchase links in unsolicited texts, calls or social posts.

  3. 03

Complete the issuer?s vehicle and account setup

Follow the issuer?s current form and provide the documents it presently requires. Enter the registration number and vehicle class exactly as shown on the vehicle?s Registration Certificate; check every character before submitting. Complete the issuer?s KYC and wallet or linked-account activation steps through its verified channel, then retain the order or account reference. Do not assume that a tag is ready merely because it was delivered.

  4. 04

Affix the RFID tag as the issuer instructs

Read the instructions included with the tag and attach it to the vehicle windscreen in the prescribed position. IHMCL identifies non-affixation and a vehicle?tag class mismatch among reasons a FASTag can be blacklisted; do not carry a loose tag in your hand or move it between vehicles. If the sticker is damaged or incorrectly issued, contact the issuer for the replacement procedure.

  5. 05

Confirm active status, balance and support route

Use the NPCI FASTag status service linked from IHMCL to confirm which tag is linked to the vehicle, and check activation and available balance in the issuer?s own app, website or wallet. If the record is missing, duplicated, inactive or mismatched, save the reference and contact the issuer through the support details printed on the tag or its verified website. IHMCL identifies 1033 for assistance with NHAI-issued tags and toll-plaza problems; use the issuer for bank-tag account issues. Consider setup complete only when the issuer confirms the intended tag is active for the correct vehicle.
