Education & Academic Records · THE NO-PANIC PLAN
Request a CBSE Marksheet or Certificate Correction
CBSE correction requests depend on the document, examination session, field, record history, and current Board instructions. First distinguish a clerical error in an issued document from a later legal name change, duplicate-document request, or correction to an application that is still in progress. CBSE's official correction page links to rules and application routes, but some linked documents are dated; verify the current rule, accepted channel, evidence, fee, and deadline with CBSE before submitting or paying. Document Scanner to PDF can prepare a legible copy only if the current route asks for a digital copy; it does not alter, certify, or validate an academic record.
MISSION Prepare and route a request to correct a factual error on a CBSE Class X or XII academic document, using the current Board instructions and evidence from the issuing school record.

What happens outside this browser tab?
Identify the issuing authority and affected document; distinguish correction from a name change or duplicate request; find the current CBSE route for the exam session and correction type; trace the entry to contemporaneous school records; verify current evidence, eligibility, deadline, and fee; prepare faithful copies only in the requested format; submit through the official channel and verify the Board's acknowledgement and corrected record.
YOUR CHECKLIST, WITH FEWER DRAMATIC SIGHES
One step at a time.
Follow the order below. If a step names a Nirmion tool, its link is right there with it.
- 01
Confirm CBSE issued the document and name the exact error
Check the issuing board, Class X or XII examination session, document type, candidate details, and the exact printed field that appears wrong. Compare the document with the school's admission record, submitted List of Candidates (LOC), and other records created at the time of admission or examination; do not alter the issued certificate or use an image editor to make it appear corrected. If the problem is in a pending application or current examination entry, use the current school/CBSE correction window for that session instead of a post-result certificate route. Keep the document and identifiers private while you investigate.
- 02
Separate a clerical correction from a later name change
Write down whether the request is to fix a spelling or factual transcription error so the certificate matches records already held by the school, to record a later legal name change, to replace a lost document, or to correct a pending examination entry. These are not interchangeable services and may require different proof, timing, and decision authority. CBSE's published correction material distinguishes correction from change in name, but the linked rule document is dated 2020; treat it as an explanation of the distinction, not proof that a particular current deadline or document list still applies to your case.
- 03
Find the current route for the exam session and correction type
Start on CBSE's official Duplicate Documents and Correction in Particulars page and follow the current route linked for correction, rather than selecting a duplicate-document service because its name looks similar. Check current examination circulars and the official post-result or regional workflow for the relevant session; schools may need to verify or forward particular requests. If the portal or page does not identify your exact situation, contact CBSE Marks and Migration or the school through contact details published on cbse.gov.in and ask which current process applies before uploading records or making payment.
- 04
Build an evidence trail from records that existed at the time
Ask the school to identify the record it supplied to CBSE and gather only the evidence the current instructions request, such as the admission form, admission/withdrawal register extract, prior-school leaving certificate, or the school's submitted candidate data. Keep the original documents and certified copies separate; note which institution created each record and when. A later-created identity document may be relevant to a legal name change but does not by itself prove that a historical school entry was wrong. Do not invent, backdate, annotate, or replace a school record to make the documents agree.
- 05
Verify eligibility, deadline, fee, and attestation before applying
Before submitting, confirm directly from the current CBSE instructions or the forwarding school which corrections are permitted, the applicable time limit, who must file or attest the request, the required documents, accepted file formats, fee and payment destination, and whether the original certificate must be surrendered. CBSE's correction page currently links dated 2020 rules and 2016 fee material, so do not rely on amounts, deadlines, or contact details copied from those older documents without confirmation. Save the current official instruction page or written CBSE response and record when you checked it.
- 06
Prepare faithful copies only in the format CBSE requests
Make clear, complete copies of the requested evidence while preserving the original page, text, signatures, stamps, QR codes, and seals. If the current CBSE route accepts a scanned PDF, Document Scanner to PDF can combine authorized page images into a readable copy; inspect every page against the source and do not use enhancement or conversion to change evidence. The tool does not certify a copy or guarantee portal acceptance. Do not submit school records to a public file-conversion service, and do not upload more personal information than the official checklist requires.
- 07
Submit securely, track the case, and verify the corrected record
Submit through the current CBSE or school-forwarded route, pay only through the official payment instructions, and save the acknowledgement, application/reference number, submitted document list, and date. Follow up using the official case-status or Marks and Migration contact route if the request is incomplete or delayed; do not send the full record to an unverified email or agent. When CBSE responds, check the corrected field and document details against the approved request and obtain the Board-issued replacement or correction record. If CBSE declines the request or the issue is a legal name-change dispute, ask for the written reason and the appropriate official review route.
