Recover a Lost Aadhaar Card Through UIDAI
Losing the printed card does not by itself mean you must enrol for a new Aadhaar. UIDAI provides ways to retrieve a forgotten Aadhaar or Enrolment ID, including an online route when you can receive registered-mobile or email verification and assisted options when you cannot. You can then use a digital copy, request a print at an authorized centre, or order a PVC card through UIDAI. This guide follows current UIDAI guidance and keeps Aadhaar numbers, OTPs, biometrics, and identity documents out of Nirmion tools.
MISSION Retrieve Aadhaar details after losing the physical card and choose an official digital, assisted, or replacement-card route in India.

Choose the recovery route based on what access you still have; use UIDAI's official Retrieve UID/EID service if registered verification is available; otherwise ask UIDAI 1947 or visit an authorized centre for assisted retrieval; select the official copy or card format you need; use UIDAI's portal if ordering a PVC card; and confirm order or support status through UIDAI channels.
YOUR CHECKLIST, WITH FEWER DRAMATIC SIGHES
One step at a time.
Follow the order below. If a step names a Nirmion tool, its link is right there with it.
- 01
Decide what you need to recover
Separate the missing physical card from the Aadhaar record itself. If you still know your Aadhaar number or Enrolment ID, you may not need a retrieval request; proceed only to an official copy or card option that meets your need. If the number is forgotten, identify whether you can access the mobile number or email address registered with Aadhaar. Do not post a card photo, Aadhaar number, EID, OTP, or full identity details in a public forum or send them to an unsolicited helper. This process is for a lost card or forgotten identifier, not for changing Aadhaar data or reporting a compromised phone account.
- 02
Use UIDAI's online retrieval route when registered access works
Open the Retrieve Lost UID/EID service from UIDAI's official site or enter the myAadhaar domain yourself. Select whether you want to retrieve the Aadhaar number or EID, then complete only the details shown on UIDAI's live page. The current resident guidance describes using the name as recorded and the registered mobile number or email, followed by the service's OTP verification; after successful verification, UIDAI sends the requested identifier through its stated channel. The online service is free according to UIDAI's FAQ. Enter the OTP yourself only on the official UIDAI page and never tell it to a caller, agent, or Nirmion tool.
- 03
If registered access is unavailable, use UIDAI's assisted route
If you cannot receive a registered phone or email verification code, do not try to bypass the check through a third-party recovery service. UIDAI's published guidance describes calling its toll-free 1947 line for help and visiting an Aadhaar enrolment centre in person for the 'Print Aadhaar' service. At a centre, UIDAI says the holder may be asked for identifying demographic details from enrolment and must complete biometric authentication; a matching record is required. Use UIDAI's official centre locator to find a current location and ask whether it offers the required service before travelling. Take instructions from UIDAI directly and do not email biometric or identity data to an intermediary.
- 04
Prepare a safe visit checklist, if using a centre
Before travelling, check the centre's live listing, hours, appointment requirements, service availability, and the information UIDAI says is needed for Print Aadhaar. Bring only what UIDAI's current instructions require and keep the original documents in your possession. Government Form Checklist (845) can help you note generic actions such as 'confirm service', 'book appointment if required', and 'ask for receipt'; it is an optional organizer and has no connection to UIDAI. Do not type your Aadhaar/EID, name, address, date of birth, OTP, biometric details, or document contents into the checklist. UIDAI's centre page currently lists Aadhaar download and a coloured A4 print at ₹40; confirm the live fee and request a receipt at the centre.
- 05
Choose the official format that meets your need
Once you have recovered the identifier, decide whether you need an electronic copy, a centre print, or a durable PVC card. UIDAI offers different formats through its own services; the separate e-Aadhaar guide explains how to download and protect an electronic copy. Use only the recipient's stated requirements when choosing a format, and do not assume that every third-party agent or private website is authorized to issue one. Keep any downloaded Aadhaar file private, and avoid uploading it to Nirmion utilities or sharing an unmasked copy when a less revealing option is accepted. A physical card order is optional; losing the old card does not require you to update demographic details.
- 06
Order a replacement PVC card only through UIDAI
If you want a PVC card, navigate from UIDAI's official website to the MyAadhaar Order PVC Card service, verify the domain, and follow the current identifiers and authentication options shown there. Review the delivery address before confirming and save the official acknowledgement or order reference in a private place. UIDAI's memorandum revised the fee from ₹50 to ₹75, inclusive of taxes, effective 1 January 2026 for myAadhaar and the UIDAI mobile app. Do not use older pages quoting the superseded rate, pay a person who promises faster delivery, or provide an OTP through chat or phone. Check the live UIDAI fee and delivery terms before paying because service details can change.
- 07
Check completion and contact UIDAI if something fails
Use the acknowledgement or order reference to check progress only through the official UIDAI service or the delivery tracking route it identifies. If a retrieval attempt, print request, or PVC order is not working, note the date and official reference without putting the Aadhaar number itself in an unsecured note, then use UIDAI's grievance and support page or call 1947. A Nirmion checklist cannot see UIDAI's systems, confirm that a card was dispatched, or resolve an identity mismatch. If a service centre or message asks for an unexplained extra payment or requests an OTP outside the official screen, pause and verify the charge and contact through UIDAI's independently opened website before continuing.
