Banking · THE NO-PANIC PLAN
Reconcile Indian savings-account transactions and resolve discrepancies
This is a privacy-first process for reviewing a personal savings account in India. It explains how to obtain a statement through the bank's own authenticated channel, compare entries against receipts and payment records, separate timing differences from unexplained transactions, and raise a traceable bank complaint. Bank app labels and statement formats vary. Never share login credentials, OTPs, full account numbers, card details, UPI PINs, or unredacted statements with Nirmion or an untrusted person. For a possibly unauthorized electronic debit, contact the bank immediately using a verified official channel; reconciliation must not delay fraud reporting.
MISSION Compare a personal Indian savings-account statement with the account holder's own records, identify unexplained entries, report urgent unauthorized transactions promptly, and retain a safe reconciliation trail.

What happens outside this browser tab?
Choose a review period and obtain the statement from the bank's official channel; keep an untouched source copy; compare opening balance, credits, debits and closing balance with the prior period and personal records; classify matches, timing items, fees and unknown entries; promptly report any unauthorized debit; ask the bank to investigate identified service errors and escalate only through the current RBI route if eligible; then confirm the final balance and securely retain a redacted working record.
YOUR CHECKLIST, WITH FEWER DRAMATIC SIGHES
One step at a time.
Follow the order below. If a step names a Nirmion tool, its link is right there with it.
- 01
Set the review period and retrieve the statement safely
Choose an exact date range and account from your own records, then sign in only through the bank's official app or website that you reach independently, or request the statement through the bank's published branch process. Never follow a statement link in an unexpected message. Save the original statement in a private location and confirm that its period and account match the review you intend to do. Since screen labels and download options differ by bank, follow that bank's current official instructions instead of a third-party tutorial. Do not share a password, OTP, PIN, CVV or complete account number with anyone helping you reconcile.
- 02
Preserve the source and create a privacy-safe working copy
Keep the downloaded statement unchanged as your source record. Work from a copy, preferably in a local spreadsheet or offline ledger, and include only the minimum fields needed: transaction date, a short neutral label, debit or credit amount, and a private reference you control. Mask account numbers and remove names, phone numbers, UPI IDs, card references, addresses, exact locations and other people’s details before sharing anything. Nirmion tools are not bank connections or secure statement vaults; use the category-review tool only with synthetic rows or data that has been irreversibly de-identified.
- 03
Check balances and compare each entry against your own records
Record the opening balance, total credits, total debits and closing balance shown for the selected statement period. Compare them with the previous statement's closing balance and your own receipts, bills, transfer confirmations and payment-app history. Match entries by date, amount and a recognizable merchant or transfer reference, allowing for posting delays and split or reversed transactions. Confirm the arithmetic from the statement itself; do not assume a familiar-looking narration proves a payment was authorized. Mark each line as matched, pending/timing difference, bank fee or tax, refund/reversal, or unexplained so gaps remain visible.
- 04
Separate normal timing differences from entries that need action
For a pending transfer, card settlement, failed payment, refund or reversal, compare the statement date with the payment provider's confirmation and check whether a corresponding credit appears later. For bank charges, compare the narration and amount against the bank's current schedule of charges for your account variant; do not assume a charge is correct merely because it repeats. Record the exact dates and neutral references for unresolved items in your private log. If an entry may be an unauthorized electronic transaction, stop routine reconciliation and notify the bank immediately through its verified fraud-reporting channel, preserving the complaint number and time of report.
- 05
Report an unauthorized debit promptly and secure the account
If you do not recognize an electronic debit or suspect account compromise, contact the bank at once using a phone number, app or website you independently verify from the bank's official source. Ask the bank to block the affected payment access or instrument as appropriate, register a formal complaint and provide an acknowledgement or reference number. RBI directions say customers should notify banks at the earliest; applicable customer-liability treatment depends on the facts and reporting timeline, so do not infer a guaranteed refund from this guide. Never give an OTP, PIN or password to someone claiming to investigate. Keep the time, channel, reference number and the bank's instructions in your private evidence log.
- 06
Ask the bank to investigate other statement errors in writing
For a duplicate debit, missing credit, unexplained fee or other service issue that is not an active security incident, submit a concise written complaint through the bank's current official grievance channel. State the account type, affected dates, amounts and masked references; explain the correction or investigation you are requesting; attach only what the bank asks for through its secure channel; and retain a copy plus acknowledgement. Ask for the expected response timeline and the official escalation route. Keep the issue factual and avoid sending a full statement or credentials through ordinary email or messaging unless the bank's verified instructions specifically require a secure submission method.
- 07
Escalate only after checking the current RBI scheme and close the review
If the bank's response is unsatisfactory or no response arrives within the applicable period, check the RBI's current Reserve Bank - Integrated Ombudsman Scheme, 2026 FAQs and full scheme for eligibility, exclusions, required prior approach to the bank and time limits before using the Complaint Management System. Do not rely on older pages describing the 2021 scheme, and do not assume every dispute is maintainable. When the bank resolves the item, verify the correction in a later statement, update the private reconciliation log, and securely retain the original statement, complaint reference and resolution. Delete unnecessary working copies and any temporary de-identified file you created for categorization.
