Education · THE NO-PANIC PLAN
Prepare an Indian PhD thesis for institutional submission
This is a practical preparation route for PhD scholars at Indian higher education institutions governed by UGC PhD regulations. Start by identifying the rules for your registration cohort: the 2022 regulations include transition provisions, and the awarding university and department issue the actual forms, template, delivery method and local checks. The guide helps you build a verified submission package and follow its official status; it cannot decide your eligibility or submit/approve the thesis.
MISSION Prepare an Indian UGC-governed PhD thesis for submission: identify cohort rules, complete required clearances, assemble the institutional package, and track acknowledgement and evaluation.

YOUR CHECKLIST, WITH FEWER DRAMATIC SIGHES
One step at a time.
Follow the order below. If a step names a Nirmion tool, its link is right there with it.
- 01
Identify the rules for your registration cohort
Write down the awarding university, department/school, PhD admission or registration date, and whether your programme is governed by current UGC (Minimum Standards and Procedure for Award of Ph.D. Degree) Regulations, 2022 or a permitted transition rule. UGC Regulation 16 distinguishes scholars already registered under earlier rules. From the university?s official Academic/Research/Examination pages, save the applicable ordinance, amendments, school/centre instructions, current submission notice, and named receiving office. If two official documents conflict or your cohort is unclear, stop and get written direction from the university?s research office; do not combine requirements from another university or an older PDF.
- 02
Check academic eligibility and open requirements
Use the rule set from step 1. For the UGC 2022 route, confirm the prescribed coursework credits and minimum result, current registration/maximum period or approved extension, and semester Research Advisory Committee (RAC) progress records with the research office. UGC 2022 sets a baseline of 12 coursework credits and 55% or equivalent for thesis submission eligibility; transition cases and stricter or procedural institutional rules need separate confirmation. Ask the supervisor/research office for a written list of any department-specific pre-submission seminar, publication, presentation, no-dues, ethics or funding requirements that apply to your cohort. Do not assume publication or conference conditions from a copied older checklist.
- 03
Complete the pre-submission review and integrity checks
Prepare a full draft for the required pre-submission presentation to the RAC (or the institution?s named equivalent). Keep the dated feedback, revision decisions and any approval/permission to submit. Follow the university?s designated plagiarism/similarity-check route and obtain its required certificate or clearance; a similarity score alone does not certify originality. Prepare the scholar?s originality undertaking and the supervisor certificate required by UGC 2022, plus any additional declarations/forms named by your applicable ordinance. Resolve authorship, permissions, restricted data and embargo questions with the university before depositing material. Do not upload unpublished thesis text to an unapproved third-party checker.
- 04
Build and validate the exact submission package
Download the current template and submission checklist from your own university/department, not from another institution. Verify title and approved synopsis, chapter order, references, appendices, figures and permissions, front matter, signatures, file naming, permitted file format, searchable-PDF requirements, physical copies if any, metadata, forms and fee/no-dues evidence as applicable. Open the final exported file on another device; confirm pages, fonts, equations, links, figures and appendices render correctly and that it is the approved version. Compare every package item against the official checklist and have the supervisor or designated office confirm any exception. UGC sets the evaluation baseline; it does not define one universal thesis layout or file-delivery format.
- 05
Submit through the named office and track the official record
Send the package only through the receiving office or authenticated portal listed by your university. Save the submission acknowledgement, timestamp, reference number, final file checksum/version and a copy of every accepted form. Check the official status channel for receipt, examiner/evaluation progress, correction requests and viva instructions; assign an owner and due date to each action. Under UGC 2022, institutions are to complete evaluation, including viva result declaration, within six months of thesis submission, and the institution submits the electronic thesis to INFLIBNET after successful evaluation and before announcing the degree. This is an institutional process, not a promise that your acknowledgement means acceptance; follow up with the university if the portal is stale. After award, confirm the institution?s final Shodhganga record when applicable. Keep private identifiers, signatures and unpublished content out of personal task tools.
