Prepare an Indian ordinary-passport re-issue application pack

Passport Seva uses different document requirements for different re-issue reasons, applicant categories and address circumstances. This workflow covers a routine adult re-issue of an Indian ordinary passport in India, such as expiry or exhausted pages. Lost or damaged passports, changed personal particulars, minors, diplomatic/official passports and other special cases need the exact official case-specific instructions. Use only the Ministry of External Affairs Passport Seva portal for forms, payment, appointments and status; a checklist tool can organize tasks but cannot determine eligibility or acceptance.

MISSION Prepare an adult India-based ordinary passport re-issue using the official case-specific checklist, portal and appointment document requirements.

Prepare your Passport Seva re-issue checklist

THE REAL-WORLD BIT

What happens outside this browser tab?

Confirm that your case is an ordinary passport re-issue; generate a case-specific list with the official Passport Seva Document Advisor and check your RPO's additions; complete the current online form from original records; pay and book through the official portal; then bring originals and self-attested copies to the appointment and track the official application status.

YOUR CHECKLIST, WITH FEWER DRAMATIC SIGHES

One step at a time.

Follow the order below. If a step names a Nirmion tool, its link is right there with it.

  1. 01

    Confirm this is a routine ordinary-passport re-issue

This checklist is for an adult applying in India to re-issue an ordinary passport, such as when its validity is expiring or pages are exhausted. If you have previously held an ordinary passport, Passport Seva generally routes that category through re-issue rather than a fresh application. First separate a routine expiry/pages case from a lost or damaged passport, change of personal particulars, minor application, diplomatic/official passport, or other exceptional situation; those cases can require different evidence. Passport Renewal Checklist (Nirmion tool 837) can help you track dates and tasks locally, but it cannot decide eligibility or the documents the Passport Office will accept. If your case is not routine, follow the official Document Advisor and your RPO's instructions for that exact situation. (Sources 1, 2, 3, 4)

  2. 02

Run the official Document Advisor for your exact circumstances

Use Passport Seva's Re-issue Document Advisor, selecting the answers that actually describe you: normal or Tatkaal, adult, whether the present address differs from the existing passport, ECR status, and the specific re-issue reason. Save the resulting checklist and inspect the jurisdictional Regional Passport Office page for any additional documents. Do not substitute a list copied from another applicant, old guide, social post, agent or unrelated passport category. The advisor's questions matter: address changes, lost/damaged passports and changed personal particulars can change what evidence is requested. If an answer is uncertain, contact Passport Seva through the official channel before paying or booking. (Sources 2, 3, 4)

  3. 03

Complete the current online form against your original records

Open Passport Seva from the official Ministry portal, sign in to your account, and choose the fresh/re-issue ordinary-passport service as directed. Enter names, dates, existing passport number, address and other particulars exactly as supported by your records; review every field before final submission. If a personal particular has changed, follow the case-specific Document Advisor instructions rather than silently changing the form or treating this routine workflow as sufficient. Keep your account credentials and one-time passwords private, and do not let an unverified intermediary submit the application for you. Save the submitted form and application reference (ARN) in a secure location; redact personal numbers before sharing a troubleshooting screenshot. (Sources 1, 3, 5)

  4. 04

Pay and book through Passport Seva, then save the appointment proof

Check the current official Passport Seva fee information for your application type and selected service before payment; amounts and options can change, so this guide does not repeat a fee. Use the portal's Pay and Schedule Appointment flow and confirm the selected PSK/RPO, date and appointment details before completing the transaction. Save the payment reference, ARN and appointment confirmation. Passport Seva says the SMS with appointment details is accepted as proof of appointment; check the current instructions in your account in case they change. Avoid lookalike websites and payment links sent by unsolicited agents. If a payment or booking appears incomplete, verify it from your official account before paying again. (Sources 1, 5)

  5. 05

Bring the originals and track the application to completion

For processing at the Passport Seva Kendra, bring the original documents identified by the current Document Advisor and one set of self-attested photocopies; check the jurisdictional RPO page for additional items. Carry your appointment proof and ARN, and arrange your documents in the advisor's order so staff can inspect them. Follow any instructions given at the Kendra, including any request for further documents or police verification; do not assume a fixed verification path or delivery date. Track the application through the official portal and respond only to verified requests. The re-issue page says the application must be resubmitted if you do not visit the Kendra within 90 days of online submission, so re-check appointment timing if plans change. (Sources 1, 2, 5)
