Launch a Shopify Store After Pre-Launch Checks

Opening a Shopify storefront involves more than publishing a theme. Before removing storefront protection, confirm the store's products, inventory, checkout, payment test, shipping, policies, domain and customer-facing pages. Shopify's automated Launch Check is a useful review, but its results require human confirmation. This guide uses Shopify's current help material and Google's ecommerce launch guidance. Nirmion's Product Launch Checklist and Regression Test Checklist can organize owners and test evidence; they do not change Shopify settings or perform transactions.

MISSION Prepare and open a Shopify storefront after checking store settings, product availability, checkout, test orders, domain and post-launch monitoring.

Review Shopify's Launch Check and test-order guidance

THE REAL-WORLD BIT

What happens outside this browser tab?

Set launch scope and staff permissions; review Shopify Launch Check findings; verify products, markets, policies and fulfillment settings; place synthetic test orders through a Shopify test gateway; connect and verify the custom domain; prepare search discovery and launch communications; then remove storefront protection at the approved time and monitor the first real customer journeys.

YOUR CHECKLIST, WITH FEWER DRAMATIC SIGHES

One step at a time.

Follow the order below. If a step names a Nirmion tool, its link is right there with it.

  1. 01

Set the launch owner, date and access boundary

Name one launch owner, a backup, the person who controls the domain, the checkout/payment owner and the staff member who can reverse the storefront change. Confirm the store plan and whether any guidance you use is limited to Shopify Plus. Choose a launch window when support and fulfillment owners are available. If you use Shopify Launch Check, give its app and store permissions only to staff or partners trusted to see store settings; its findings can include sensitive payment configuration. Create a separate launch checklist and store credentials only in your approved password manager. Define the conditions that postpone launch, such as a failed test order, wrong price/stock, inaccessible checkout, or unresolved domain status, before making the public switch.

  2. 02

Run Shopify Launch Check and review every finding

From the Shopify admin, run the current Launch Check and review the detailed results for store data, settings, storefront and any other relevant areas. Treat a Ready label as a prompt to confirm the result, not an automatic approval; Shopify says some tasks need manual checks or business judgment. Open each finding, follow the linked Shopify instructions, assign an owner and record the evidence or reason for a decision. Fix Not ready items and rerun the check after material changes. Do not grant an app or partner broader permissions than required, and avoid copying sensitive store details into a separate checklist. A passing scan is one input to the launch decision; it cannot determine whether your regional taxes, privacy terms, product claims or business policies meet your obligations.

  3. 03

Verify products, checkout settings and customer information

Review a representative set of products for correct titles, variants, prices, stock, images and availability. Confirm collections and menus lead to the right products, and review the public contact, shipping, refund, privacy and terms pages for accuracy. Check store currency, market availability, shipping rates, delivery methods, checkout fields, customer account settings, order notifications and fulfillment routing against decisions made by the responsible owners. Confirm that the storefront gives a clear explanation when an item is unavailable and that no draft or test product is accidentally purchasable. Use Shopify's store-design checklist for its practical launch prompts; verify all tax, consumer-law and shipping requirements for each target location with the appropriate owner or adviser.

  4. 04

Place end-to-end test orders through a test gateway

Use Shopify's test payment gateway or the payment provider's documented test mode to simulate a complete order. Check the product and variant, stock reservation, shipping selection, tax display, discount, payment result, confirmation page and email, order record, fulfillment handoff, cancellation and refund path that apply to your store. Test at least a successful flow and an expected failure or declined payment using only provider-supplied test values. Record each scenario, expected result, actual result and evidence in Regression Test Checklist. Shopify warns that customers cannot place live orders while payment providers are in test mode, so plan the later setting change and verify the final state before launch. Do not use a real card or create a live charge merely to test checkout; some real-charge reversals can incur fees.

  5. 05

Connect the custom domain and verify its status

In Shopify admin, connect the intended domain using Shopify's current connection flow or the instructions for your domain provider. Confirm that you control the registrar account, review each DNS record carefully, and set the intended primary domain after Shopify recognizes the connection. A DNS change can take time to propagate; do not announce a final launch URL while the domain or TLS status is unresolved. Open the domain on desktop and mobile, confirm it loads over HTTPS without a certificate warning, and check that navigation and the checkout continue on the correct store. Keep registrar access and recovery information with the authorized owner; Shopify can help with technical domain configuration but does not provide legal or compliance advice about regional domain requirements.

  6. 06

Prepare discovery, support and the launch-day checklist

Confirm that the pages intended for public discovery are accessible, that product details and availability shown to shoppers are accurate, and that any Merchant Center feed or Product structured data reflects the same current offer. Verify Search Console site ownership and prepare the correct sitemap route if you use Google Search; Google recommends submitting a sitemap for a larger set of launch URLs and checking indexing after launch. Write a support handoff with the launch time, escalation contact, order monitoring owner, refund/cancellation route and rollback decision maker. Keep test credentials and customer data out of Nirmion tools. Confirm that analytics or advertising scripts activated for launch have been approved and that privacy/consent choices are handled according to the applicable market requirements.

  7. 07

Open the storefront and monitor the first customer journeys

At the approved time, have the authorized owner remove storefront password/protection and switch the payment provider from test to live mode only after confirming the go-live decision and provider configuration. Visit the public domain from a clean browser session and check that products are visible, a shopper can reach checkout, the payment options displayed are intended, and support/contact details work. Use only a narrowly approved production smoke check; never use a real payment method unless your team's payment owner has explicitly authorized that transaction and its accounting treatment. Monitor the first orders, payment errors, stock changes, fulfillment notifications, support reports and domain/SSL status. If a critical issue occurs, pause sales or restore the prior storefront state using the documented rollback owner and Shopify's current controls. Check search indexing later; it may take time and does not certify store quality.
