Download and review your Indian EPF passbook securely
Use the official Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) Member Passbook portal or the UMANG app's EPFO service to view your own account. Your UAN, password, payslips and passbook contain sensitive personal and financial information; keep them in your own secure device and never paste or upload them into Nirmion or an unknown service. Some members of exempted establishments will not see a passbook in the UAN portal and should request their PF statement from the establishment's trust. EPFO's live portal controls access and current labels. This guide helps you inspect records and report a mismatch; it does not calculate benefits or determine legal entitlement.
MISSION Help an Indian EPF member access the official passbook, check posted contribution entries against private payroll records, and raise a supported discrepancy through EPFO's official channels.

Check that you are using an official EPFO access route and whether your establishment maintains its own exempted PF trust; sign in with your own UAN credentials or use current UMANG activation guidance; open the member passbook and download it privately; compare posted months and amounts with your own records; and resolve missing entries with the employer or EPFO through the official grievance system while keeping acknowledgement details.
YOUR CHECKLIST, WITH FEWER DRAMATIC SIGHES
One step at a time.
Follow the order below. If a step names a Nirmion tool, its link is right there with it.
- 01
Confirm the account and choose an official EPFO route
Ask your employer or payroll team for your UAN and the PF Member ID or establishment details for the employment you want to review. Use the current EPFO Member Passbook portal reached from epfindia.gov.in, or open the government UMANG app and select EPFO Services. The live EPFO member portal states that UAN activation and new UAN generation use UMANG's Aadhaar-based face-authentication service; use the current on-screen instructions if you have not activated your UAN. First check whether your employer is an exempted PF establishment whose fund is managed by its own trust. EPFO guidance says such members may not have a passbook in the UAN portal and should request their PF statement from the establishment. Never follow login links sent by unsolicited texts or calls.
- 02
Sign in yourself and open the correct member passbook
Navigate directly to the official EPFO Member Passbook portal and sign in using your own UAN, password and the live CAPTCHA or authentication control. Do not share credentials or OTPs with an employer, agent, caller or this workflow. Select the correct member account/employment if the portal presents more than one. Use the current passbook/download option shown by EPFO to view or save the statement. EPFO's member FAQ describes a Download Passbook option and PDF copy, but menus can change; follow the live portal rather than an old screenshot. If access fails, use the official forgot-password or current UAN activation help, and do not create a second UAN merely because an account is not immediately visible.
- 03
Save the statement privately and check its coverage
Save the passbook only to a device or storage location you control, with device access protection enabled; do not email it to yourself through a shared account or upload it to a public PDF tool. Confirm the member ID, employer and covered wage months shown on the statement. If your account includes previous employers, check whether each relevant member ID appears and whether a transfer or service history item is still pending. Keep the original file unchanged and make a private working copy if you need notes. If you belong to an exempted establishment or the portal says the passbook is unavailable, request the corresponding PF statement from the establishment or trust; absence from the portal alone does not prove that no contribution exists.
- 04
Compare posted contributions with your own payroll records
For each covered wage month, compare the employer and employee contribution entries shown in the passbook with your payslip and any employer-provided PF statement for that same period. Check that you are comparing the right member ID and month, and note an entry as matched, unclear, or not yet visible rather than assuming a discrepancy from a single missing row. Keep your payslip and passbook side by side only in your private storage; do not enter UANs, salary amounts, bank details, Aadhaar, PAN or screenshots into a public checklist or utility. EPFO may have posting delays or maintenance notices; check current official notices and recheck later if a recent period is not yet displayed. This comparison is a record check, not a benefit or tax calculation.
- 05
Ask the employer first, then track an official grievance if needed
For a specific missing or inconsistent entry, write down the wage month, member ID and the records you compared, then contact the employer's payroll or PF contact through a verified company channel. Ask whether the contribution was reported, whether a posting or transfer is pending, and what correction or confirmation they can provide. Share only the information needed through that private official process. If it remains unresolved, open EPFiGMS from epfigms.gov.in, register as a PF Member when prompted, give a factual description and attach only relevant redacted evidence if the portal requires it. Save the grievance number and acknowledgement, use EPFiGMS status/reminder controls to follow up, and avoid sending passwords, OTPs or full financial documents to callers or social-media accounts. Escalate through current EPFO support if the portal itself is unavailable.
