Government & Identity · THE NO-PANIC PLAN
Download an Existing Indian e-PAN from the Correct Official Provider
If you already have a PAN and need its electronic copy, use the official route tied to the record. The Income Tax Department's Instant e-PAN service is for eligible people who have not already been allotted a PAN; it is not a way to create a second PAN. Existing holders may be able to view or download the copy through e-Filing, Protean, or UTIITSL depending on the original service route and the current provider rules. This guide covers retrieval of a digital copy, not a physical-card reprint or correction of PAN data.
MISSION Help an existing Indian PAN holder retrieve a digital PAN copy through the official Income Tax e-Filing, Protean, or UTIITSL route that matches how the PAN was issued or last processed.

What happens outside this browser tab?
Confirm that a PAN has already been allotted and that you only need the digital copy; identify the appropriate official portal from the PAN's service history; use the portal's current e-PAN download flow and identity verification; check any current provider fee before submitting; save the official file securely; and use the correct correction or support route if your record is unavailable or inaccurate.
YOUR CHECKLIST, WITH FEWER DRAMATIC SIGHES
One step at a time.
Follow the order below. If a step names a Nirmion tool, its link is right there with it.
- 01
Confirm you need a digital copy of an existing PAN
Use this guide only if a PAN has already been allotted and the PAN details do not need correction. If you have never received a PAN, use the separate first-time application process. The Income Tax Department explicitly excludes existing PAN holders from Instant e-PAN generation; do not try to obtain another PAN just to replace a missing PDF or card. If your details are wrong, use an official correction route. Government Form Checklist (845) can hold generic reminders such as identify the previous provider and check the live service requirements, but never put a PAN, Aadhaar number, birth date, email, OTP, acknowledgement number, or document in that tool.
- 02
Identify the official portal that can serve your record
Start at the Income Tax Department's PAN services page and use its current links. If the PAN came from the Department's Instant e-PAN service, return to the e-Filing portal and use the Instant e-PAN status/download option. If the latest PAN application or correction was processed by Protean, use Protean's e-PAN request service. If it was processed by UTIITSL, use UTIITSL's e-PAN download service. These provider pages impose different eligibility conditions, so a record not found on one site does not mean you should apply for a new PAN or enter your details on a third-party site.
- 03
Use the Income Tax e-Filing route for an Instant e-PAN record
For a PAN that was generated through the Income Tax Department's Instant e-PAN service, open the official e-Filing portal and choose Instant e-PAN, then the status/download option. Enter the requested identity details only on that government page and complete its current verification. When the service shows the PAN as generated and allotted, choose View e-PAN or Download e-PAN. If the request is still pending, save the acknowledgement privately and check its status later instead of submitting a duplicate application. The Instant e-PAN service is not available to someone who already held a PAN before that request.
- 04
Use Protean only when its eligibility matches your PAN record
Open Protean's direct Get e-PAN service from the current Protean PAN services page. Its instructions say the route is for PAN holders whose latest application was processed through Protean. Follow the page's current branch for an allotment or confirmed change within the recent period versus an older record; the service may ask for a PAN or acknowledgement and identity verification. Enter those values only on the official Protean service. Read the fee shown before proceeding, because the charge depends on the provider's current rule and issue date. If Protean says it cannot serve the record, stop and confirm the responsible provider through the Department's PAN services links.
- 05
Use UTIITSL only when it processed the PAN application or correction
Open UTIITSL's Download e-PAN service from its official PAN portal. UTIITSL states that the download facility is for applicants whose PAN application or change/correction was processed and issued through UTIITSL. Its current form requests the fields shown on that page, including PAN and the relevant month/year, and verifies the request through an OTP sent to the email recorded with the Income Tax Department. The e-PAN is sent to that recorded email. Check the live fee before requesting an older copy; do not rely on a fee remembered from another provider or an earlier visit.
- 06
Resolve a provider mismatch without creating a duplicate PAN
If the provider cannot find your record, compare its eligibility rule with the portal or acknowledgement used for the last PAN application or correction. A Protean-only route may not serve a UTIITSL-issued record, and vice versa. If the email needed for verification is missing or outdated, follow the official PAN correction/contact instructions to update the record; do not send identity documents or OTPs to an unofficial helper. If you are unsure which route applies, return to the Income Tax Department PAN services page or use the provider's published support details before paying or submitting anything else.
- 07
Save the official PDF securely and share only when needed
After the official portal provides the file, save it in a private location and confirm it opens and corresponds to your existing record. An e-PAN is a digitally issued PAN document; do not upload it, its QR code, or its identifiers to Nirmion tools, public cloud converters, chat, or a public checklist. Send it only through the channel requested by a verified recipient, and use a masked copy if the recipient accepts one. Keep the provider receipt or acknowledgement separately from the PDF and remove extra downloads from shared devices. If the file appears wrong or the delivery email is unexpected, contact the provider through its official support route.
