YOUR CHECKLIST, WITH FEWER DRAMATIC SIGHES
One step at a time.
Follow the order below. If a step names a Nirmion tool, its link is right there with it.
- 01
Write the offer rules before opening Shopify
Record the campaign goal, code name, percentage or fixed amount, products or collections, eligible customers/markets, minimum purchase or item count, total and per-customer usage caps, start/end dates in the store time zone, and whether it should combine with product, order, or shipping discounts. Check that the promotion fits your margin and campaign budget; Nirmion Discount Calculator can estimate a straightforward price after one or more percentage reductions, but it does not model Shopify eligibility, taxes, shipping, discount classes, or merchant margin.
- 02
Create an amount-off discount code
In Shopify Admin, go to Discounts, select Create discount, choose Amount off products or Amount off orders, and set Method to Discount code. Enter a clear code without special characters or generate one. Choose Percentage or Fixed amount and enter the approved value. For percentage offers, check the intended rounding and customer-facing price on a sample item; for fixed amounts, decide whether the value should apply once per order when the offer targets specific products.
- 03
Set the products, eligibility, minimums, and use limits
Choose whether the code applies to all products or only selected products/collections, and set purchase type if subscriptions are in scope. Configure the minimum purchase amount or item quantity, remembering that only eligible products count for product discounts. Choose all customers, specific customers, customer segments, or markets as appropriate. If needed, cap total redemptions and limit to one use per customer. Check each setting against the written offer so the checkout behavior matches the promise.
- 04
Set combinations and the active schedule deliberately
In Combinations, allow only the discount classes the campaign is intended to combine with; combination settings must permit the pairing on each discount involved. Shopify?s availability has plan and checkout eligibility rules, and multiple product discounts on the same item require Shopify Plus. If combinations are not part of the offer, leave them disabled. Set the start and optional end dates and verify the store time zone; Shopify applies the scheduled times in that selected time zone. Review the full configuration, save, and confirm the code appears with the expected active or scheduled status.
- 05
Test both qualifying and rejected carts before sharing
Open the storefront as a customer, add an eligible cart and apply the code at checkout; verify the displayed discount, subtotal and message before payment, then stop without placing a real order. Repeat with a cart that should fail a product, minimum, audience or market rule, and try any planned combination. If it fails unexpectedly, check both discounts? combination settings, eligible items, usage limits, schedule/time zone and any checkout app or script. Only then share it with the intended audience. Track redemptions with Shopify?s Sales by discount report and compare them with the campaign goal.
