Correct the Date of Birth on Aadhaar Through UIDAI

Aadhaar date-of-birth corrections follow a specific UIDAI process, and the right evidence can depend on whether the record is declared, approximate or verified, which document was used earlier, the applicant's age and whether a previous correction was made. This guide follows UIDAI's current DOB SOP and acceptable-document list, including its later corrigendum. DOB changes are not available through the online demographic update service. UIDAI reviews every request and does not guarantee acceptance. Government Form Checklist can track generic preparation labels only; never put Aadhaar numbers, OTPs, personal details or document scans into unrelated tools.

MISSION Correct a date of birth on Aadhaar using UIDAI's current evidence rules, centre process and exception procedure where applicable.

THE REAL-WORLD BIT

What happens outside this browser tab?

Check the record's DOB status and update history; identify the original proof and applicable SOP branch; assemble currently acceptable evidence; locate an authorized centre and submit in person; review the captured DOB and acknowledgement; track UIDAI's decision and use the proper correction or exception route; verify the final record.

YOUR CHECKLIST, WITH FEWER DRAMATIC SIGHES

One step at a time.

Follow the order below. If a step names a Nirmion tool, its link is right there with it.

  1. 01

Check how the current date of birth is recorded

Start with UIDAI's official portal or contact centre to understand whether the Aadhaar record treats the date of birth as declared, approximate or verified, and whether a DOB update has already been made. UIDAI's current rules generally allow one DOB update; a further change uses an exception process. A request may also differ when the earlier proof was a birth certificate, another listed proof, or when the original value was entered incorrectly by an operator. Do not assume that a mismatch with a school, tax or passport record automatically qualifies. If the record history is unclear, ask UIDAI through 1947 before submitting so you can identify the correct SOP branch. Never share an OTP or Aadhaar credentials with an intermediary.

  2. 02

Identify the exact UIDAI evidence branch for your case

Read UIDAI's current Date of Birth SOP before choosing documents. For a first update where DOB is declared or approximate, evidence depends on age: resident children below 18 generally need a birth certificate, while adults use an acceptable Proof of Date of Birth from UIDAI's list. If the original verified proof was a birth certificate, the SOP can require a corrected certificate with the same Birth Registration Number and the same registrar, plus the prescribed affidavit. If the original proof was another document, a correction may require the corrected version of that same document or a birth certificate, with affidavit rules depending on the case. Subsequent updates and alleged operator errors have their own branches. Follow the current SOP wording, not a generic checklist or old article.

  3. 03

Prepare valid evidence and any required affidavit

Use UIDAI's live acceptable-document list and the SOP together; a document appearing in the list does not override special rules based on the earlier proof or update history. Confirm the document is currently valid, issued to the applicant, verifiable, and shows consistent identity details. For a corrected birth certificate, check the exact BRN and issuing registrar requirements. For a corrected non-birth-certificate proof, the document generally needs to be the corrected version from the same issuing authority and description under the SOP. Download any required affidavit annexure directly from UIDAI and follow its current execution instructions. Use Government Form Checklist only to tick generic labels such as “birth certificate” or “affidavit prepared”; do not enter a name, DOB, Aadhaar number, certificate number or scan.

  4. 04

Find an authorized centre that handles demographic updates

DOB correction is not available through UIDAI's online demographic update service or the mAadhaar app. Use UIDAI's centre locator or Aadhaar Seva Kendra information to find an authorized location that offers demographic updates. Confirm the address, service availability, appointment or walk-in instructions, and current displayed charges before travelling; centre services and fees can change. Bring original documents required by your specific SOP branch, any UIDAI-prescribed affidavit, and the information UIDAI asks you to provide. UIDAI's update FAQ says originals are scanned and returned, and that a request can still be rejected after submission. Do not send evidence to a private agent promising a guaranteed or instant change.

  5. 05

Submit the request and carefully review the acknowledgement

At the authorized centre, state that you are requesting a date-of-birth correction and present the evidence required for your case. Before confirming the captured information, compare the entered date with the supporting proof and ask the operator to correct a typing or transcription error before final submission. Ask for the applicable current fee and a clear acknowledgement or enrolment/update ID; keep it because UIDAI uses the reference to identify the request. Collect every original document after it has been checked or scanned. The acknowledgement proves a request was submitted, not that UIDAI approved it. Do not leave without confirming you have the receipt, the originals and the correct contact route for tracking.

  6. 06

Track UIDAI's decision and follow the matching correction route

Check the request through UIDAI's official status service using the acknowledgement details. UIDAI validates the submitted information and may accept or reject it; a document mismatch, evidence that does not follow the prior-proof branch, an exceeded update limit or a data-entry issue can affect the result. If UIDAI rejects the request, read the reason and compare it to the current DOB SOP before acting. For an alleged operator error, use the SOP's specific path and evidence; for a subsequent update, follow the regional-office exception process and required affidavit/evidence rather than repeatedly filing standard requests. UIDAI may conduct further checks, and an exception is not guaranteed. Contact UIDAI at 1947 or its published support channel if the rejection reason or next step is unclear.

  7. 07

Verify the approved Aadhaar record and protect your documents

After UIDAI marks the request complete, use UIDAI's official service to view or download the updated Aadhaar and verify the date of birth against the approved request. If the record remains unchanged, use the status and acknowledgement details to contact UIDAI or follow the stated grievance route; do not edit the downloaded PDF or treat submission as approval. Store the acknowledgement and original evidence securely, and share them only when there is a clear need through a verified channel. The Nirmion checklist should retain only generic task labels and completion marks. If another government or education record still has a different DOB, contact that record's issuing authority separately; an Aadhaar update does not automatically amend other databases.
