Correct an Indian voter record with Election Commission Form 8

Use this for correcting an existing Indian electoral-roll entry, such as a name, gender, date of birth/age, relation detail, address or photograph. Election Commission Form 8 allows corrections to up to four particulars in one request and asks for documentary evidence supporting the claim. It is not a new-voter registration, deletion request or general replacement-card request. Start by confirming that you already appear in the roll. Aadhaar is an optional authentication detail in the form: it includes a choice for applicants who cannot furnish an Aadhaar number. Use only the Election Commission's voter service portal or the responsible Electoral Registration Officer (ERO), and keep EPIC/Aadhaar details out of public screenshots.

MISSION Help an already-enrolled Indian elector correct inaccurate particulars in the electoral roll and EPIC using Election Commission Form 8, submit supporting evidence to the right election authority and confirm the corrected entry.

THE REAL-WORLD BIT

What happens outside this browser tab?

Find the existing electoral-roll entry and EPIC; select Form 8's correction option rather than new registration or deletion; identify no more than four fields that need correction and gather a self-attested supporting document for each claim; submit through the official voter service portal or the responsible ERO and save the acknowledgement number; monitor the reference, respond to any official request, then verify the roll and follow ERO instructions for a replacement EPIC or return of an old card.

YOUR CHECKLIST, WITH FEWER DRAMATIC SIGHES

One step at a time.

Follow the order below. If a step names a Nirmion tool, its link is right there with it.

  1. 01

Confirm the existing voter entry and the exact error

Search the Election Commission's official electoral-roll service for your name and constituency, then compare the displayed entry with the EPIC and the identity/supporting records you intend to rely on. Write down the exact field that is wrong and the correct spelling/date/value; Form 8 is for a registered elector, not for adding someone missing from the roll. If no entry exists, use the Election Commission's new-elector registration route instead. Do not file a second voter registration to fix an existing entry, and do not share your EPIC number, full date of birth or Aadhaar number in a public post while asking for help.

  2. 02

Choose Form 8 correction, not another voter-service request

Open the official Election Commission Voters' Service Portal from voters.eci.gov.in and choose Form 8 for an existing elector. Select ‘Correction of Entries in Existing Electoral Roll’ and leave unrelated options, such as shifting residence, replacement EPIC without correction or disability marking, unselected. Form 8 lists the correctable particulars, including name, gender, DoB/age, relation type/name, address, mobile number and photo; it permits at most four corrections in one application. If your situation is actually a move to another residence, use the Form 8 shifting option and its address-proof instructions rather than describing it as a name correction.

  3. 03

Prepare proof for each correction before you submit

Attach a clear, self-attested document that supports the value you are asking the ERO to correct, and record the document name in the form. The ECI form asks for supporting proof; the acceptable evidence depends on the particular field and current instructions, so do not assume one document proves every claim. If the photograph is the field being corrected, Form 8 specifies a recent unsigned colour passport-size photo, 4.5 cm by 3.5 cm, frontal full-face view against a white background. The linked Nirmion Passport Photo Maker can prepare a 35-by-45-mm crop for this optional photo case; check the final image against ECI requirements because the tool does not certify government compliance. Form 8 offers an Aadhaar-number field or a selection for not having one; do not treat Aadhaar as universally mandatory based on this workflow.

  4. 04

Submit an accurate Form 8 to the correct election authority

Sign in through the official voter portal, enter your existing EPIC and constituency details, select only the particulars being corrected (up to four), enter each requested value and upload the matching proof. Review every letter and date against the evidence before making the declaration; the form warns that knowingly false declarations are punishable. Submit and save the acknowledgement/reference number and a private copy of what you sent. If using a paper form or in-person channel, address it to the ERO for the relevant constituency and obtain a dated receipt. Do not send original identity documents, photographs or your EPIC through a phone number or agent found in an advertisement.

  5. 05

Track the request and verify the corrected roll entry

Use the official voter portal's application-status service or contact the constituency ERO/BLO through Election Commission contact details with your saved reference. If the officer requests clearer proof or a correction, respond through the official channel and keep the new acknowledgement. After a decision, search the electoral roll again and check the specific field you asked to change; a submitted receipt is not proof that the roll has been updated. ECI's Form 8 guidelines say an approved correction may result in a replacement EPIC with the same number and instruct the elector to return the old EPIC to the ERO; confirm the approved return method with the authority before handing over the card. Keep the final status and updated entry confirmation privately.
