Travel & Immigration · THE NO-PANIC PLAN
Apply for an Indian eVisa Through the Official Portal
India's eVisa is available only for eligible nationalities, travel purposes, and document types. The official Bureau of Immigration portal sets the current category requirements, upload specifications, fees, processing information, status checks, and permitted entry points. This guide explains how to verify eligibility, prepare evidence, submit and monitor an application, and travel only after approval. It cannot predict a decision or replace official instructions. Visa Document Checklist can track generic document labels only; keep passport data and identity files out of the tool.
MISSION Apply for an Indian eVisa through the authorized Government of India portal after confirming nationality, purpose, current document requirements, fees, and travel conditions.

What happens outside this browser tab?
Confirm nationality and purpose eligibility; verify passport, timing, entry and stay rules; prepare category-specific evidence; apply through the authorized portal; check uploads and application details; pay the displayed official fee once and monitor status; then travel only after the ETA is granted and arrival requirements are rechecked.
YOUR CHECKLIST, WITH FEWER DRAMATIC SIGHES
One step at a time.
Follow the order below. If a step names a Nirmion tool, its link is right there with it.
- 01
Confirm the eVisa route fits your nationality and purpose
Use this workflow only for a foreign national considering an Indian eVisa. On the official Bureau of Immigration portal, confirm that your passport nationality is currently eligible and that your actual purpose matches an available category such as tourism, business, medical, student, transit, or another listed purpose. The eVisa route is limited: the portal directs some applicants to a regular visa through an Indian Mission, and certain travel documents or circumstances are excluded. Do not select tourism to cover work, study, journalism, or another purpose that the rules do not permit. If your nationality, purpose, passport, or travel history is not clearly covered, use the official regular-visa route or ask the Indian Mission before paying a fee.
- 02
Check the live passport, timing, entry and stay conditions
Read the current instructions for the exact eVisa type before choosing travel dates. Check passport validity and blank-page or travel-document conditions, any required return or onward ticket, how early the application window opens, the minimum lead time, permitted entry checkposts, number of entries, validity, maximum stay, and whether the visa can be extended or converted. These conditions vary by visa category and can change; do not copy a duration or deadline from an old article or a sample application. If you will enter by a land border, seaport, or less common airport, verify that exact port against the live eVisa list. Do not make non-refundable travel commitments on the assumption that an application will be granted by a particular date.
- 03
Prepare category-specific evidence without exposing it to third-party tools
Open the official document-required list for your selected visa category. The portal requires a passport biodata page and recent photograph for eVisa applications, plus additional category-specific evidence such as a hospital letter, invitation, or other proof where applicable. Check the live portal's photo and file rules, format, size limits, language, clarity and matching passport details immediately before uploading; the sample PDF is illustrative and may be outdated. Visa Document Checklist can track generic labels such as passport page, photograph, invitation, or hospital letter and whether each is ready. It processes data in the browser, but do not enter passport numbers, birth dates, addresses, application IDs, or upload identity documents into it.
- 04
Apply only on the authorized Government of India portal
Navigate by typing the official indianvisaonline.gov.in address and select the eVisa application link. Confirm the hostname before entering any personal information: the Government of India warns applicants to use its authorized portal and not pay an intermediary for an emergency or express grant. Fill the online form yourself or with a trusted helper while retaining control of the answers; copy passport details exactly, choose the matching category, and review every field against the passport and supporting evidence before final submission. Save the temporary application ID and the email address used. Do not provide an OTP, password, card security code, or remote access to a person promising faster approval.
- 05
Upload the required files and check the application summary
Upload the photograph, passport biodata page and category-specific documents in the live portal's corresponding fields. Open each uploaded preview and verify that it is legible, complete, right-side-up, in the required language, and tied to the same passport details entered in the application. Replace blurry, cropped, expired, mismatched, or wrong-category files before submission. Review the applicant name, nationality, passport number and expiry, travel purpose, intended dates, email, and declarations carefully; the portal warns that incorrect information can lead to rejection and corrections may be restricted after submission. Retain the confirmation and application reference through a private, secure channel.
- 06
Pay the displayed official fee once and monitor the application
Before payment, confirm the country-specific fee and any payment charge shown on the official portal. The eVisa processing fee is non-refundable even if the application is refused, so do not pay a third party offering an approval guarantee or express processing. After authorizing the payment, save the receipt and submission email. If the payment status does not update, use the portal's Verify Payment option and wait for its stated update window before starting another application or paying again; duplicate submissions can create confusion or repeated charges. Check the visa status with the official application reference, watch the email used in the form for requests to re-upload a file, and respond only through the official portal.
- 07
Travel only after the ETA is granted and recheck arrival rules
Before boarding, open the official status page and confirm the Electronic Travel Authorization shows GRANTED; a payment receipt or submitted application is not a visa approval. Download or print the ETA as instructed, carry the passport used in the application, and check that the ETA, passport details, dates, entry point, and intended stay match your itinerary. Follow the category's current immigration conditions and be prepared for biometric capture or questions at the port; final admission is decided by immigration officials. Check the Bureau of Immigration's current arrival instructions separately. If you are required to submit an e-Arrival Card, it is an arrival-information step and not a substitute for a visa or granted ETA.
