Apply for a personal loan with an Indian regulated lender

This is a process guide, not a loan recommendation or eligibility promise. It covers an unsecured personal loan from an Indian bank or RBI-registered NBFC, including digital applications where the lender uses a lending-service provider. Rates, eligibility, documents, approval times and foreclosure terms depend on the lender and applicant. Before sharing identity or income records, independently verify who the actual lender is and that any app or agent is listed by that lender. Compare the lender's Key Facts Statement (KFS) and agreement, not an advertised monthly rate alone.

MISSION Help an Indian applicant compare and apply for an unsecured personal loan through a verified lender channel.

Review RBI's borrower guidance for digital lending

THE REAL-WORLD BIT

What happens outside this browser tab?

Set a repayment ceiling, shortlist banks or RBI-registered NBFCs, verify any digital app through the lender, compare written KFS offers and total cost, apply through the verified channel, then review the sanction and confirm disbursal and repayment records.

YOUR CHECKLIST, WITH FEWER DRAMATIC SIGHES

One step at a time.

Follow the order below. If a step names a Nirmion tool, its link is right there with it.

  1. 01

Set a borrowing need and repayment ceiling

Write down the amount needed, why it is needed, the date by which it is needed and the maximum monthly payment you can sustain after essential expenses and existing debt. Avoid borrowing a larger amount just because an app advertises it. List current EMIs and irregular income or expenses before deciding on a term. The Nirmion Personal Loan EMI & Cost Calculator (tool 3) can estimate payments and total outflow from figures you enter, but it cannot assess your creditworthiness, quote a lender's live terms or tell you that a loan is affordable. Treat its result as a planning estimate, use synthetic or non-identifying figures when possible, and proceed only if the repayment remains manageable under a less favorable income month.

  2. 02

Choose and independently verify the lender

Start with a bank or NBFC you can identify from its own official website, branch or customer-care channel. For a digital lending app or intermediary, find the name of the actual regulated lender before entering personal information, and verify on that lender's own website that the app or service provider is authorized to act for it. RBI guidance warns that fraudulent apps may falsely claim lender association; do not install an unsolicited APK or follow loan links from SMS, social media or a caller. Check the lender's grievance contact and privacy notice. If the lender identity or its relationship with the app cannot be confirmed independently, stop and do not upload KYC or bank data.

  3. 03

Compare written offers using the Key Facts Statement

Ask each shortlisted lender for its standardized Key Facts Statement before accepting an offer. Compare the amount actually disbursed, annual percentage rate (APR), interest method, tenure, EMI, processing and other charges, late-payment charges, prepayment or foreclosure conditions and any cooling-off option shown in the offer. Review the sample repayment schedule and the agreement for terms the sales page omits; a lower monthly EMI can result from a longer and more expensive term. RBI's KFS rules require key cost information for covered loans, while digital-loan rules require upfront APR and KFS disclosures. If a fee, rate, recipient account or promise differs between the KFS, sanction letter and app screen, pause and request written clarification from the lender before proceeding.

  4. 04

Submit only through the lender-verified application route

Use the lender's official branch, website or independently verified app route. Complete the application with accurate identity, address, occupation, income and existing-obligation details; submit only documents the lender requests through its authenticated channel. Read the consent screens and deny access that is not necessary to process the application. For a digital loan, check the lender's published privacy notice and how to contact its grievance officer. Do not pay a personal account or an intermediary an advance 'release' fee, share a card PIN or OTP with an agent, or allow remote control of your device. Approval is the lender's decision: if the application is declined, use the lender's official reason or complaint route rather than a guaranteed-approval broker.

  5. 05

Review the sanction, confirm disbursal and keep the record

Before accepting, match the sanction letter and final agreement against the KFS: lender legal name, principal, net amount reaching your own account, APR, EMI and due date, total fees, term, security requirements if any, and late-payment and closure terms. Ask for corrections before e-signing if anything differs. Save the digitally signed KFS, agreement, sanction letter, repayment schedule and lender complaint details in a secure location. Confirm the disbursal credit in your own bank account and later reconcile each debit with the schedule. If the app or lender behaves improperly, complain first through the lender's published grievance channel; where eligible and unresolved through the lender process, use RBI's complaint mechanism. Do not send identity documents or loan statements to Nirmion tools.
