Calculation path

Each flow is discounted by its exact day distance from the earliest date. Binary search finds an annual rate between -99.99% and 1,000% where their sum is approximately zero.

Calculation path

The solver finds the annual rate where the date-weighted net present value of all four cash flows equals zero.

What you provide

What you provide

  • Cash flow 1 date: Date of the first cash flow, normally the initial investment.
  • Cash flow 1 amount: Use a negative value for money invested. Example: -500000.
  • Cash flow 2 date: Date of the second contribution or receipt.
  • Cash flow 2 amount: Negative for contribution, positive for receipt.
  • Cash flow 3 date: Date of the third contribution or receipt.
  • Cash flow 3 amount: Negative for contribution, positive for receipt.
  • Cash flow 4 date: Date of the final value or receipt.
  • Cash flow 4 amount: Use the final positive value or receipt.

What you receive

What you receive

  • Estimated annual XIRR
  • Cash-flow count and elapsed-year span
  • Residual NPV at the solved rate

Use boundary

Choose the maximum decimal places shown. This does not increase source accuracy.

Cash flows with multiple sign changes can have multiple mathematical rates; this bounded solver reports one bracketed solution or an honest failure.
