Check the size you will actually print

Effective PPI equals decoded pixel width divided by print width in inches. Proportional print height follows the source aspect ratio. Transparency is measured from decoded alpha values, not guessed from the filename or format. Compare the result with the untouched source before using it downstream.

What image print production preflight measures or changes

Effective PPI equals decoded pixel width divided by print width in inches. Proportional print height follows the source aspect ratio. Transparency is measured from decoded alpha values, not guessed from the filename or format.

Resolution bands are planning guides, not a print-ready certificate. This check does not validate ICC profiles, CMYK conversion, bleed, trim, paper, ink coverage or a printer's requirements. Browser-local processing avoids a Nirmion file upload, but it cannot remove copies stored elsewhere.

  1. A 1200 by 800 pixel image printed 4 inches wide has 300 PPI and is about 2.667 inches tall. At 8 inches wide it has 150 PPI and is about 5.333 inches tall. No pixels are added by changing the width setting.
  2. Check a product photo before placing it in a catalogue. Increasing its printed width lowers effective PPI even when the file itself is unchanged.
  3. Flag transparent artwork before handoff so the printer can confirm how it will blend with the page or paper.

Important image boundaries

Why might a PNG not become smaller?
PNG is lossless and browsers do not expose a quality control for it. Choose WebP or JPEG when reducing file size matters more than exact lossless pixels.
Are animated images supported?
No. The workspace accepts still JPEG, PNG, and WebP files. Re-encoding an animated source would otherwise keep only one frame.
What does clearing the file mean?
Because processing is local, there is no Nirmion server copy to delete. The tab releases its working references after success; your downloaded output remains on your device.

Frequently asked questions

Does Image Print Production Preflight upload my image?

No. Supported JPEG, PNG, and WebP decoding, pixel inspection, transformation, and export run in your current browser tab. Nirmion does not send the selected image to its API for this workflow. The result is a separate derivative or JSON report, while the original file on your device remains unchanged and should be retained for comparison.

Is PPI the same as printer DPI?

No. PPI describes how many image pixels occupy an inch at the chosen print size. Printer DPI describes output dots, which this tool does not measure. The report separates results into below 150, 150 to below 300, and 300 PPI or above. These are review bands, not universal acceptance rules for every printer or viewing distance.

Does a high-resolution result mean the image is print-ready?

No. Sufficient resolution is only one part of a print handoff. Confirm colour profile, transparency handling, bleed, trim and paper requirements with your printer. This browser check accepts one JPEG, PNG or WebP up to 20 MB and 12 million decoded pixels. It examines a decoded image, not every animation frame or a complete print document.
