Learning inputs

Build the exam day time allocation planner

Enter the official start in HH:MM, total minutes, reading and review reserves, and section | marks rows. Include every required section.

Generation uses only the information entered in this tab. It does not fetch sources or make student decisions.

Transparent method

How the exam day time allocation planner works

Available working time = total − reading − review. Section minutes = section marks ÷ total marks × available time, rounded by largest remainder. Checkpoints add each allocation to the start plus reading reserve. The table shows when each section would ideally begin and end. It is a pacing model; learners can adapt it while preserving enough time for high-value sections and final checking.

  1. 01
    Before generation

Verify start, duration, sections, marks, and access arrangements.

  2. 02
    During review

Compare progress with checkpoints without panicking over small variation.

  3. 03
    Before use

Use the final reserve for unanswered items, transfers, labels, and review.

How to interpret the result

Exam Day Time Allocation Planner

Before generation

Use this for a multi-section exam when learners need clock-time checkpoints rather than mental percentage calculations during the assessment.

Worked example

A 150-minute science exam beginning at 09:00 reserves ten minutes for reading and ten for review. The 130 working minutes are allocated to four sections by their 150 total marks.

Formula or methodology

Available working time = total − reading − review. Section minutes = section marks ÷ total marks × available time, rounded by largest remainder. Checkpoints add each allocation to the start plus reading reserve.

How to interpret the result

The table shows when each section would ideally begin and end. It is a pacing model; learners can adapt it while preserving enough time for high-value sections and final checking.

Common mistakes

Do not use unofficial marks, omit instructions or transfer time, enter 12-hour time without conversion, or forget authorized additional time.

Use the official exam instructions and authorized access plan

Learning boundary

Use the authorized administration time

Official instructions, accommodations, pauses, and invigilator directions override this plan.

Review checklist

Human review before educational use

  • Start and duration are official.
  • Section marks are complete.
  • Reading and review reserves are realistic.
  • Authorized additional time is applied correctly.

Practical questions

Exam Day Time Allocation Planner questions

Why allocate by marks?

Marks provide a transparent first approximation of expected effort.

What if a section has fixed time?

Subtract its fixed time first and allocate the remaining duration across the other sections.

Can the schedule pass midnight?

The calculator wraps clock display after 24 hours, though ordinary exam durations should not need this.
