TAX WORKSPACE

Build the quote

India is a guided GST route. Every line can hold its own rate, HSN/SAC evidence, discount, and cess.

NEW TO GST QUOTES?

Start here. No tax jargon needed.

Use this workspace to build a clear tax estimate for a client or check a bill. You enter the sale details; Nirmion shows the arithmetic, the India tax split, and the information still worth checking before you send it.

LINE 01Professional services
Use an HSN code for goods or a SAC code for services when you know it. Search can suggest a source-linked rate, but it is not a legal classification decision.

GST ROUTING

Choose supplier state and place of supply
Needs setup

Use the place of supply for this transaction. It can differ from the customer address for some supplies.

OPTIONAL GSTIN CHECKS

Format and state-prefix

Checking live verification availability.

Optional. Nirmion can check the format and state prefix. Live verification is available only when an authorised provider is connected.

Cess belongs to individual goods/services above. Invoice rounding applies once to the final total.

Add the business name, recipient, validity date, and any scope or payment note before sending a client-facing quote. These details appear in PDF, CSV, copied, and shared quotes. They remain in this browser draft and are never sent to the API.

INDIA GST GUIDE

The important bits, in normal language.

Reviewed 2026-08-23. Use this guide to understand the quote, then confirm the classification and transaction-specific rules before invoicing.

When your price is before GSTTaxable value = (quantity x price per unit) - discount. GST and any cess are added after that.

This is the usual way to prepare a quote when you know your base selling price.

When your price already includes GSTTaxable value = entered amount / (1 + GST rate + cess rate). Tax is the difference between the entered amount and the taxable value.

Use this to understand a receipt or a listed customer price without charging tax twice.

How the India tax split is chosenSame supplier State and place of supply: CGST plus SGST/UTGST. Different locations: IGST.

The total rate does not change just because it is split. The labels and amounts shown on the quote do.

BEFORE YOU SEND

A quote check that takes one minute.

These are practical checks for a clear client quote. They do not turn a quote into a tax invoice automatically.

  1. 01

Use a clear description, quantity, unit price, discount, taxable value, and tax amount for every line.

  2. 02

Check the supplier details, recipient details, reference or serial number, date, and place of supply for the transaction.

  3. 03

Confirm the HSN or SAC classification, rate, cess, and whether the tax route should be CGST plus SGST/UTGST or IGST.

  4. 04

Add the validity date and commercial terms when this is a quote. A quote is not automatically a compliant tax invoice.

  5. 05

Review special cases separately, including exports, SEZ supplies, reverse charge, composition scheme supplies, and transaction-specific place-of-supply rules.

WORKED EXAMPLES

Common situations, with the maths shown.

Same State

A local service quote

A Kolkata consultant charges Rs 10,000 before GST for a service supplied in West Bengal at 18% GST.

Taxable value: Rs 10,000. GST: Rs 1,800, split as Rs 900 CGST and Rs 900 SGST.The client sees a final quote of Rs 11,800.
Different States

An interstate sale

A Karnataka supplier sells a Rs 10,000 item to a place of supply in Maharashtra at 18% GST.

Taxable value: Rs 10,000. GST: Rs 1,800 as IGST.The final quote is still Rs 11,800; only the tax route changes.
GST Included

A price already includes tax

A final listed price is Rs 11,800 and the applicable GST rate is 18%.

Nirmion separates it into Rs 10,000 before tax and Rs 1,800 GST.Use this view to check a receipt or avoid adding GST twice.

GST WORDS, DECODED

Terms you will see in the quote.

Taxable value

The amount after discount on which GST is calculated. It is the base price, not the final customer total.

CGST and SGST/UTGST

The two parts of GST shown for a normal intra-State supply. Together they equal the total GST rate for the line.

IGST

The GST label generally used for an inter-State supply. It replaces the CGST and SGST/UTGST split in this tool.

HSN / SAC

A classification code: HSN is used for goods and SAC is used for services. The code helps identify the applicable tax treatment.

Place of supply

The location used to determine the GST route. It can be more specific than the customer billing address in some transactions.

Compensation cess

An additional levy that applies only to certain notified supplies. It is calculated separately from GST in this workspace.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Useful before you rely on a number.

Does this tool file GST returns or create an official invoice?

No. It creates a transparent quote or estimate and does not submit returns. Check the invoice requirements that apply to your transaction before treating an export as a tax invoice.

Why do I need both supplier State and place of supply?

Those values decide whether the tool shows CGST plus SGST/UTGST or IGST. The place of supply can be different from a customer address for some goods and services.

Does an HSN or SAC search prove my tax rate is correct?

No. It gives a source-linked starting point. You remain responsible for confirming the exact classification, conditions, notifications, and rate that apply to your supply.

When should I select price including GST?

Select it when the number you have is already the amount the customer pays, such as a receipt or listed retail price. The tool then removes tax from that amount instead of adding it again.

Is my quote data stored on Nirmion?

Quote lines and client details remain in the browser draft. GSTIN values and verification results are not saved in the browser draft or the Nirmion rate-reference database.

WHAT THIS TOOL DOES NOT DECIDE

Use a human check for special cases.

  • This guided route is for ordinary India GST estimates. It does not determine special place-of-supply, export, SEZ, reverse-charge, composition-scheme, e-invoicing, or credit-note treatment.
  • GST rates and notifications can change. Confirm the exact HSN/SAC classification, conditions, and current notification before invoicing.
  • Nirmion performs arithmetic and shows a likely route from the locations entered. It does not replace a chartered accountant, tax adviser, or the official GST portal.
